On Wednesday last week, my shared ambition for a one-stop online resource for General Practice became a reality.
The GPOne website was launched by Primary Care Quality and Healthy Working Wales Team in Public Health Wales, with the endorsement of the Welsh Government’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Ruth Hussey. It was great to feel the support and positive energy at the launch.
After 7 years of development and much collaborative working, this was an exciting time for primary care – the foundation of healthcare in Wales.
The GPOne website is a professional website for General Practice staff – designed and updated by GPs and other primary care professionals working in Wales. We hope that it will provide easy to access, up to date and relevant information and resources and allow sharing of best practice between General Practice professionals and GP cluster groups.
This unique, collaborative venture brings together the knowledge and expertise of those working within General Practice and makes it accessible to every GP working in Wales, whether they are at work, home or on the move.
The dual platform website – gpone.wales.nhs.uk – is now live. One platform is a bilingual public- facing area giving general access to current health news, resources and information, but we’ve also developed a secure area to the site, that provides a space for General Practice staff to access resources and share learning through a secure forum. There is also a free job and event advertising service for practice manager, practice nurse and GP posts across Wales. We created a video to make it easy for people to understand how to use the site, which you can see here.
As I said at the launch: “From a small seed a mighty trunk may grow”. I think we may be at sapling stage, so big ‘thank you’ to all who have contributed so far but please continue to spread the word, give us feedback and allow us to continue to grow.
